The population in Thailand seems to lean more towards women than men for some reason. So with a population of around 65 million people and more than half of them are women you would think finding a Thai wife would be easy but it’s a bit more complicated than that. Finding a Thai girlfriend is quite easy to do but finding a Thai wife is something else entirely different. You could walk into just about any bar in Thailand and find yourself a Thai girlfriend but finding a Thai wife who is someone you can trust is as difficult as it is in any other country.
If you are in Thailand on holidays and looking at finding a Thai wife there are a number of things to consider. Although many of the girls who work in bars in Pattaya, Bangkok or anywhere else in Thailand might seem really nice and might in fact be good people, they are prostitutes whose main aim is to get money from farang (foreign) guys. You need to ask yourself would you be looking for a wife who was a prostitute back in your own country? If not you need to at least consider whether you could mentally cope with knowing your Thai wife was a prostitute for who knows how many years.
Many Thai girls who work in bars seem as beautiful on the inside as they do on the outside but are notorious for telling lies. If the Thai bar girl you meet tells you she has only worked in the bar for a week or a month or that she only recently left her home town up country, these are the most common lies of all from Thai bar girls. A friend of mine came to Thailand with his main goal of finding a Thai wife and met a 33 year old girl in a bar one night and she convinced him she had only started working in the bar the week before and had only ever gone with one man before him. Fast forward 6 months and he is living back in America with her after spending thousands of dollars to get her there on only a temporary visa. She would regularly go out some nights and not come home and then one night they had a fight and she admitted to him she had really been working in bars since she was 17. So instead of her working in the bar for only a week she had been a bar girl for over 15 years. It ended up costing him even more money to get her out of his life and send her back to Thailand.
Of course this is only one side to the story in relation to finding a Thai wife and many men do find their Thai wife in a bar and occasionally they live happily ever after but remember finding a Thai wife also means finding a new family to support since this is Thai culture. If you find a Thai wife you met in a bar, her and her entire family will then be your financial responsibility whether you continue to stay in Thailand or not. Even if you move back to your own country you will have to send money back to Thailand every month for her family. If you have plenty of money this will probably not be a problem but the more money you have the more your Thai wife will probably want and expect.
Now if you come to Thailand to work legitimately finding a Thai wife is a definite possibility and I don’t mean with a bar girl. What many male tourists are not aware of since they only ever mingle with bar girls is that only a tiny portion of less than 1% of Thai girls work as bar girls which are basically prostitutes. So there are many opportunities to meet nice Thai girls who have regular jobs and indeed your chances of finding a Thai wife you can trust are extremely good.
The average Thai girl would never work as a prostitute or work in a bar but most farang men who only come to Thailand on holidays simply don’t know this. If you are working in Thailand you will no doubt be working with Thai people and just like working in any other country you will have opportunities to meet a Thai girlfriend that may lead you to finding a Thai wife. As you spend time in whatever area of Thailand you are living in you will surely get to know many Thai girls and when they know you are living in Thailand or plan to stay over the long term and not just on a holiday you will realize the opportunities you have in regards to finding a Thai wife are very good.
If you are successful in finding a Thai wife that has her own job you will still be expected to provide for her family on some level but she will take some of the financial burden as well by giving a portion of her income to her family each month. So finding a Thai wife is most definitely a possibility but it also depends on the nature of your visit to Thailand, how long you plan to stay and importantly where you meet your potential Thai wife.
