There are a few of ways to get from Pattaya to Koh Larn which is commonly referred to as Coral Island. There is no airport on Koh Larn so all modes of transport are by water. Coral Island is the biggest of all the islands off the Pattaya coastline that are still visible from the mainland. Although there are a number of smaller islands off the Pattaya coast, Koh Larn is predominantly the only one worth going to since it has a number of beautiful beaches as well as other tourist attractions to keep you occupied.
A day trip from Pattaya to Koh Larn Coral Island is well worth your time if you have come to Pattaya for a holiday. If you are not in a hurry you can get from Pattaya to Koh Larn on the ferry that leaves every two hours from the Pattaya Pier from 8am to 6pm each day. The ferry trip takes less than 1 hour and costs only 20 baht (about 50c), so it is quite a bargain
For a considerably more expensive trip at 1,500 baht return per person you can take a speed boat from Pattaya to Coral Island from early morning up until just before the sun goes down and the trip only takes about 15 minutes. You can also organize with the speed boat driver to take you to a number of snorkeling locations but this will cost you extra. It is just as easy to get onto an organized snorkeling tour once you reach Koh Larn.
While on Coral Island there are a number of pristine beaches where the water is much cleaner and clearer than the water at
Koh Larn got the name Coral Island due to the abundance of coral around the island and the neighboring islands of Koh Sak and Koh Khrok. Snorkeling around Coral Island is the number one tourist attraction for all those who visit the island daily. Other than catch the ferry or take a fast speed boat ride you could always swim to Koh Larn since it is only about 7km away from the Pattaya coast. Although swimming this distance would not appeal to most, there is in fact a marathon swimming competition each year from Pattaya to Coral Island but you would need to be an exceptionally strong swimmer to participate.
