The following Thailand tourist tips are related to all areas of Thailand not just Pattaya but Pattaya is one place where they are particularly important since there are so many tourists there. Thailand is an easy and generally safe pace to travel around but it is always important to respect the local customs and traditions and you will have a much happier holiday. Thai people are very friendly and most are happy to have tourists in the country since they bring a lot of money however some of their ways are different to the way people live in the western world.

One thing you should never do is touch a Thai person on the head. This is something that is not done in Thai culture and many of them would take it as a sign of disrespect if you did this.

Thai people love their King and would never say a bad word against him nor would they ever allow a foreigner to say anything negative against him. It is actually a legal offence to speak in a derogatory way about the King. Also if you ever dropped any of your Thai money, never put your foot on it as it has the King’s face on it and this is disrespectful to the King.

Another important Thailand tourist tip is to avoid touching your feet in public. The feet are considered to be the lowest point of the body so touching your feet or putting your feet up in public is not advised.

Although it is ok to walk around the beach with your swimming gear on it is best not to do this when walking around in public places. This Thailand tourist tip is mainly directed at men and it is advised to always wear a shirt once you have left the beach. Also bathing topless in Thailand is not really the done thing in the same way it might be considered ok in other countries.

For foreign men on holidays in Thailand it is very important to understand that not all girls in Thailand are “bar girls”, in fact much less than one percent of the female population in Thailand work in bars. So if you are wandering around a shopping center in Thailand and a Thai girl smiles at you it doesn’t mean she wants you to take her back to your hotel nor does it mean she is available to you. What it probably means is she is smiling because most Thai people are just very friendly, that’s why Thailand is often called the Land of Smiles.

Don’t use profanity in public either as Thai people are very much offended by profanity, they don’t use it when talking and neither should you.

Shop around to get the best bargains when shopping, often different shops or stalls may charge very different prices for the same merchandise.

These are just a few of the Thailand Tourists tips that might help make your trip to Thailand run a little smoother and allow you to avoid any uncomfortable scenes due a misunderstanding of cultures. The more you smile in the Land of Smiles the more you will fit in and the more people will smile back at you.
