Walking Street Pattaya at the southern end of Beach Road is perhaps one of the most hedonistic areas on the entire planet. Walking Street is the pinnacle of Pattaya nightlife and has got to be the number one place anywhere in the world where you will see more men with smiles on their faces over and above anywhere else you could ever imagine. No matter how young or old you are Walking Street is a visual spectacular with its colorful characters, flashing neon lights, outrageously and provocatively dressed ladyboys, beautiful young Thai girls from all over the country looking for either a man for the night to help them pay the bills or for the dream “pretty woman” romance, it’s all there on Walking Street.

Both sides of Walking Street are filled with beer bars, night clubs, go-go bars, ladyboy bars, delectable seafood restaurants, Indian tailor shops, Thai food outlets and array of retail shops all open till late every night of the week. Walking Street is relatively quiet during the day but once the sun goes down the street is cut off from all motorized traffic and it then becomes pedestrians only and this is when the party starts.

Although Walking Street Pattaya is extremely popular with single men and especially with the many sailors that come from navy boats moored in Pattaya bay, it is also great fun for couples and families day and night as there is so much to see and the atmosphere is electric. It’s a very safe area and well patrolled by both Thai police and the very friendly tourist police who I believe have just as much power if not more than the regular police. The tourist police can all speak English and are more than happy to give you information or help you in any way they can. It is a lot safer at night around Walking Street than it is in other less patrolled areas around Pattaya.

Officially the closing time for bars in Thailand is 1am but the police usually make an exception in Pattaya and especially on Walking Street as the tourist industry would really suffer if they didn’t relax the rules a bit in this area. Tourists spend millions of baht every night in Walking Street so bar owners want to stay open till as late as possible and it’s not uncommon to see some bars open till just before sunrise but at that stage the music is turned right down and only the die hard drinkers and the occasional desperate bar girl remain.

If you are a single guy and heading to Pattaya for the first time or the hundredth time Walking Street is a blast as the girls there don’t act like your everyday hooker and act more like you’re long term girl friend but of course they will want to get paid the next morning, there is no doubt about that. Families and couples can still have a great time on Walking Street and the seafood restaurants are of international standard but the prices are at the low Thai rates so check out Walking Street if you get a chance, you never know who or what you’ll bump into.
